Port Chairman Janiece Longoria was honored with the University of Texas School of Law's Distinguished Alumna for Community Service Award Oct. 6.

The award recognizes an outstanding graduate who has made exemplary contributions in public, pro bono or community service.

Longoria was chosen for the award for her years of public service, leadership and positive impact to industry. She is also the first woman to serve as Chairman of the Port of Houston Authority.

“Regent Janiece Longoria’s leadership of the University of Texas and Port Houston is well-deserving of this recognition,” said University of Texas President Greg Fenves on his official Twitter account.

She is active in many non-profit organizations and has received numerous honors and recognitions for her community and board service, including being a board member and past vice chairman of the University of Texas System Board of Regents.

Ms. Longoria is an honors graduate of the University of Texas and received her J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law in 1979.
