The year 2017 will be a big year for the Houston International Seafarers' Center (HISC). As center officials prepare for their move to a new location by the port’s executive building, they have adapted to new challenges and changes to improve their operations.

Port Houston’s Small Business and Education Outreach Department hosted more than 70 attendees at the 2017 Capital Improvement Projects and Subcontracting Opportunities Workshop Feb. 16 in the port’s Executive Building.

Port Houston welcomed government officials from the Ministry of Infrastructure, Ports, Energy and Labour and the Saint Lucia Air and Seaports Authority (SLASA) for a briefing Feb. 17.

The Lone Star Harbor Safety Committee held its first meeting of the year Feb. 10, which marks the organization’s five-year anniversary. The group held its annual election for several terms on the board and had a visit from Rear Admiral David Callahan of the 8^th U.S. Coast Guard District.

The Port of Houston Partners in Maritime Education Program and the Houston Pilots welcomed more than 85 businesses at a recent forum about maritime initiatives aimed at preparing the next generation of leaders. The Maritime and Logistics Partners Symposium was held Feb. 7 in Deer Park.

The Port Commission of the Port of Houston Authority has authorized an agreement with the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) and Port Terminal Railway Association (PTRA) to carry out the Broadway Second Main Track Project.

Dean E. Corgey has been reappointed to the Port Commission of the Port of Houston Authority Jan. 25, 2017, by the Houston City Council. He serves on the port’s Pension and Benefits Committee.

Port Houston welcomed nearly 300 supply chain professionals, beneficial cargo owners and exporters at its second Synthetic Resin Symposium Jan. 24 at the Sheraton Houston North Hotel at Bush Intercontinental Airport.
