Harris County Commissioners Court and the City of Houston voted to reappoint Janiece Longoria as Chairman of the Port of Houston Authority during a ceremony Jan. 9. Longoria has served in the role since 2013 and joined the Port Commission in 2002.

The State of Texas has selected Port Houston to join its Infrastructure Industry Liaison Program. The port will coordinate with the State Intelligence Fusion Center as a resource for maritime related information and reports, providing real-time information and reporting suspicious activity.

The Port of Houston Authority is the first port in Texas to receive awards under Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts Glenn Hegar’s newly enhanced Transparency Stars program.

The holiday season came on strong for Port Houston’s FTZ program, with six new private and public sites joining FTZ #84 in December. A total of 13 sites were added in 2016.

The Greater Houston Port Bureau recently announced that Janiece Longoria, Chairman of the Port Commission, Port of Houston Authority, has been named the 2017 Maritime Person of the Year. She will be recognized at the Port Bureau’s Annual Maritime Dinner August 19, 2017.

Katoen Natie, one of the largest global suppliers of logistics and distribution services based in Belgium, recently opened a new two million square foot logistics facility with 530 hopper car spots at their Chambers County Logistics Terminal in Baytown, Texas on December 9th.

Harris County Commissioners Court reappointed Port of Houston Authority Commissioner Clyde Fitzgerald Dec. 20. Fitzgerald serves on the Port Authority’s Audit committee and chairs the Pension and Benefits Committee. He joined the Port Commission in 2013.

Port Houston employees volunteered their time and efforts at Port Houston Elementary during Junior Achievement’s “JA Day.” The educational partnership allowed members of the port community to interact with over 240 students ranging from Kindergarten through fifth grade.
