The Port of Houston Authority partnered with Hermann Park Conservancy for the third annual “Park to Port” Bike Ride, which was held Oct. 15. Riders started in Hermann Park by Bill Coats Bridge, heading east through the recently rehabilitated Bayou Greenway trail on Brays Bayou, ending up at the Port of Houston. More than 1,000 participants joined this year’s bike ride.

Port University Course Brings Small Businesses Together
The Port of Houston Authority held its semi-annual Port University workshop during the month of October. Port University, a four-week training course, is an outreach program designed to educate small businesses about business opportunities at the Port Authority. The workshops are presented in collaboration with the University of Houston Small Business Development Center.

Port Authority Participates in “Dredging Your Docks” Conference
The annual “Dredging Your Docks” conference sponsored by Chris Ransome and Associates was held Nov. 2 at Brady’s Landing restaurant. The seminar was developed to provide an opportunity for industry professionals to learn about and raise awareness for maintenance dredging in ports and harbors. More than 100 maritime industry professionals attended the workshop.

Port of Houston Authority employees joined dozens of fellow canoe and kayak enthusiasts for the inaugural Greens Bayou Regatta, a 7.5 mile paddle race held Oct. 22. The event focused on combining recreation, stewardship and education on one of Houston’s most beautiful and secluded waterways, Greens Bayou.

Port Authority Receives 42nd Consecutive CAFR Award
The Government Finance Officers Association has awarded the Port of Houston Authority’s 2015 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the 42nd time since first receiving the honor in 1974.
